Parents As Partners Policy

Agreement between sherwood pre school and the parents/carers

AIMS

Sherwood Pre School aims to provide an environment that is caring, stimulating and one that fosters children’s independence. We will provide a variety of play/learning experiences and encourage children to reach their full potential. We will respect each child as an individual and ensure that each child’s developmental needs and interests are reflected in our medium and short term planning.
Each child is assigned a key person and if at any time a parent has any concerns they are welcome to make an appointment to discuss these.

STAFF

As members of a caring profession, our staff are required to be positive role models for the children in their care. They must show respect for children and other adults and use appropriate language at all times.

PARENTS AND CARERS

In return, parents and carers are required to treat each other, staff and the children at Sherwood with respect and courtesy at all times. Under no circumstances will intimidating behaviour or verbal or physical aggression towards members of staff be tolerated. There is never any excuse for this.
We expect parents and carers to abide by our policies.
We expect parents and carers to play a positive role in their children’s well-being, discussing their children’s behaviour and development in a constructive and open manner.
Sherwood Pre-School will make every effort to welcome and involve parents in the running of the group. We aim to:
  • Make all new parents aware of how the group runs, including policies, procedures and the curriculum.
  • Parents/carers will be invited to visit the group with their child prior to admission and to attend open days.
  • We will ensure that all parents/carers will have the opportunity to contribute to the group’s activities by inviting them to share with us their knowledge, skills and interests.
  • Parents are invited to voice their concerns and views which will be acknowledged and respected.
  • Parents/carers will be involved in shared record keeping about their child, and confidentiality will be upheld at all times. Parents/carers are always welcome to make an appointment with their child’s key person to discuss their child’s progress. Times convenient to the parent/carer will be made wherever possible.
  • All families are important and should be welcomed and valued in all settings.
  • All parents/carers will be notified about meetings, workshops and training opportunities, to enable them to learn about the pre-school curriculum and about young children’s learning at the group and at home.
Children are only released from the care of the provision to individuals named by the parent. For the child’s safety we operate a password system.

CHILDREN’S BEHAVIOUR

We believe that children and adults flourish best in a sensitive and caring environment where everyone knows what is expected of them. Care is taken to promote and praise desirable/acceptable behaviour in order to ensure that children do not only receive an adult’s attention as a result of undesirable behaviour. The boundaries regarding behaviour are explained to the child and applied consistently to encourage their learning in this area.
Where consistent disruptive or difficult behaviour continues, parents/carers will be invited to agree a behaviour strategy to which both parties will work.
In the event of persistent harmful behaviour by a child towards either the child him/herself or to other children or adults in the setting, we reserve the right to contact the parents/carers and ask for the child to be taken home for the rest of the session. If a child continues to behave in a harmful manner we reserve the right to suspend that child’s place either temporarily or permanently.

COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE

1. Should you have any complaint please contact Lisa Wright or Jade Godden.

2. Alternatively you may contact the Trustees by emailing to sherwoodpreschool1@gmail.com and marking it “Private & Confidential – Trustees only”.

3. If you wish to take this matter further please contact Ofsted on 08456 40 40 40.

We aim to establish close relationships with all our families. Children enter the Pre-school with rich and varied earlier experiences. As your child’s first and most important teacher, you will be able to help us understand their learning needs and preferences. We value this information and will work with you to build on the learning experiences you have already given.

Communication

A member of staff is available to talk to you each day, but an appointment may be necessary if you need to discuss anything at length. We have a meeting for new parents in September as well as other parents’ information sessions during the year, to discuss different aspects of the children’s learning.
Each term, a member of staff meets with parents to discuss their child’s development and progress at home and at the pre-school. Reports will be written and there will be an opportunity to comment upon these.

Reading

Children are encouraged to take books home on a regular basis. They have their own book bag, and we expect parents to share books with their children. This encourages a love of literacy. Books may be borrowed at any time.

Involvement

We hope families will become involved in as many ways as possible and hope you will attend our various events, or maybe help with fund-raising. Help on a regular or occasional basis is always very welcome.
